Update: Mashrou3 Leila- Will Not Open For RHCP

Dear readers,

Mashrou3 Leila announced via Twitter today that the band will not open for the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert due to take place in Beirut on the sixth of September.

All the founding members of Beyond Compromise are loyal fans to Mashrou3 Leila. We are very happy and even relieved with the band’s decision, both as Palestinians and as fans. We are aware of the revolutionary nature of the band and had faith that it would not disappoint us.

We would like to show appreciation to Mashrou3 Leila and fellow fans for respecting the call to boycott issued by Palestinians against the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a band that has expressed excitement and eagerness to perform for apartheid Israel. Although some choose to normalize the Zionist occupation of Palestine, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement has grown rapidly, and we hope to help its growth continue.

In solidarity,

Beyond Compromise

  1. This is fantastic! The band have clearly put their consciences and their belief in what is right before the publicity that opening for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers would generate. Well done to everyone concerned. Onward towards freedom!

  2. Masrou3 Leila Fiasco:
I see this charade from a different point of view. Mashou3 Leila should have not been put in that position in the first place. A young and upcoming band in an era of drought should not be opening to a band that is long dead. Lately there has been no band coming up onto the music scene, the DJ syndrome squashed creativity. Our nostalgia for live music allowed some disbanded groups from the past to perform again. Why should we accept mediocracy and deja vu and heard? Why are we raising the dead? Leila should not open for any of those second run around.
